The SCENEDAILY.COM STOCK CAR CHALLENGE is FREE to play. Your team will compete against all other teams entered in order to win weekly and overall prizes. Selecting Your 5 Drivers Each Race Week

Upon successfully entering, each race week you must select your initial team of 5 drivers for the weekend's Sprint Cup race prior to 11:59 PM ET the night before the race (the "initial pick" deadline). Your 5 drivers must be selected from the five driver boxes A, B, C, D, and E, with one driver selected from each box. Based on the results of the race, your team will receive Sprint Cup points equal to the number of Sprint Cup points earned by each of your five drivers. You must select 5 unique drivers each race week. You may, however, select the same driver for multiple race weeks. Your initial driver picks must be made on-line via the Contest website.

Your driver selections do not roll-over from week to week. You must select your initial team of 5 drivers for each race week by the initial pick deadline or your team will receive 0 points for that race. The drivers in each of the five boxes A, B, C, D, and E will not change during the Contest.

Quick Pick Weekly Driver Selections

Each race week the Game Master for the Contest will select 5 drivers for the upcoming weekend's race using the five driver boxes A, B, C, D, and E. You may choose to select these same 5 drivers for your team as your initial picks rather than making your own initial picks.

Selecting Your 2 Tiebreakers Each Race Week

In addition to your initial team of 5 drivers, each week you must select your 2 tiebreakers for the weekend's Sprint Cup race prior to 11:59 PM ET the night before the race. As the first tiebreaker, you must predict how many cars will finish on the lead lap. As the second tiebreaker, you must predict how many cautions will occur during the race. Once the initial pick deadline for the race passes, your tiebreakers are locked in. Your tiebreakers must be made on-line via the Contest website.

Modifying Your 5 Drivers Each Race Week

Each race week you may change your driver picks after the initial pick deadline and until 15 minutes after the scheduled TV start time of race coverage for the weekend's race. You still must retain one driver selection from each box. If you did not pick your initial 5 drivers by 11:59 PM ET the night before the race, you will not be able to make driver changes during this period. Changes to your driver picks must be made on-line via the Contest website.

Driver Change Deadlines

All driver change deadlines will be published on the Contest website. The published driver change deadlines will not change - unless there is a scheduling change PRIOR to race day or the race is postponed to a new date. If the race is rain- or weather-delayed or TV coverage is delayed, the driver change deadline will not change. In the event that the race is postponed to a new date, the new driver change deadline will be posted on the Contest website.

Scoring

Each race week, points are awarded based on the Sprint Cup points that are awarded to each of your drivers based on their race finish and laps led. For a complete explanation of the Sprint Cup scoring system, click here . In addition, 5 points will be awarded for each correct tiebreaker prediction answer. If your driver is penalized by NASCAR, your team will not lose the corresponding Sprint Cup points. Previous points earned by a driver before he was on your team do not count.

To determine season standings, each team's weekly race point totals are added together to determine its accumulated season point total. All teams then are ranked by their season point totals. The team with the most accumulated points for the season is first, and the team with the fewest accumulated points for the season is last. To determine season standings for private groups, all teams in the private group are ranked by their season point totals. The team in the private group with the most accumulated points for the season is first, and the team in the private group with the fewest accumulated points for the season is last.

Sprint Cup Series Point System

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has used several point systems since its inception in 1949. NASCAR designed the current system, which has been in place with a few changes since the 1975 season. It has built-in incentives that reward teams for leading races and finishing near the front. The system also rewards consistency throughout the season by awarding points to every competitor in each race and awarding the same number of points at each event regardless of its length or venue.

Given the fierce competition within the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the number of teams capable of winning on any given weekend, a finish in the top five or top 10 is regarded as an admirable effort. Therefore, the winner is rewarded a 15-point separation between himself and the next highest finisher. Positions two through five are rewarded with a five-point separation between themselves and the next-highest finisher. Positions six through 10 are awarded a four-point separation. Three points separate each finishing position from 11th through the end of the field, regardless of the number of starters.

Rewarding the top five and top 10 finishers in this manner promotes performance and consistency. The system also rewards those who qualify at each event by awarding points to all competitors in every race and by awarding the same number of points at each event -- whether it's 500 miles on a superspeedway like Daytona or 400 laps on a short track like Richmond.

Bonus Points

The only way a driver can receive bonus points is to lead a race. Five points are awarded to any driver who leads at least one lap. An additional five points are awarded to the driver who leads the most laps during each event. If two or more drivers tie to lead the most amount of laps, each driver receives the additional five points for leading the most laps.

Bonus points are an important part of the system because they give value to leading a race at any time. That creates good, hard racing throughout the event. The extra bonus for leading the most laps improves the race in two ways: It's an incentive to stay in the lead, even in the early or middle stages of the race, and it rewards those drivers who race hard all day but fail to finish due to an accident or mechanical problem.

Relief Drivers

NASCAR Sprint Cup points are awarded to the starting driver of each car, regardless of who is driving at the finish. The starting driver must take the green flag and complete at least one lap before turning the car over to a relief driver.

Any qualified NASCAR Sprint Cup driver may drive in relief. In some cases, a driver without a scheduled ride for a particular race may make practice laps in anticipation of driving in relief for someone during the race. Other times, a starter who has fallen out of an event will make himself available to take over another car if needed.
